Uncharacteristic proportions of high severity fire over the area burned,
particularly in the last decade, has been a common theme in the megafires that
have occurred throughout the Sierra recently. The following metrics
characterize, map, and quantify some of the factors that contribute.

The RRK has two metrics that describe the Severity Element: annual burn
probability and probability of high fire severity. The current condition of
the Hazard Element is represented by one metric, probability of high fire
severity (indicated with an asterisk). The Element condition score is the same
as the probability of high fire severity score.
